I'm sharing a quest from someone on another forum to solve the mystery of this little disc is embedded into the side of the stock of a Winchester 1907 self-loader. See pics below.

The object is not connected in any way to the other workings of the gun.

The little pin flips up when its not covered by the rotating half-moon.

What the heck is it?!

I assume it's spring loaded and doesn't lock in the upright position?

When it pops up is it toward the butt or muzzle?

I see no provision for a sling on the butt, what about the barrel?

Something to help with magazine problems/jamming?

Something useful for takedown/reassembly?

Spitballing here.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

It's a device to insure cheek placement, for consistent cheek weld.

As it seems to fold down toward the butt, recoil would be uncomfortable on the cheek, no???

A "kisser button" of sorts does seem to be the most common guess on the site where this was originally posted, but its all speculation so far. If anyone has any information that might help validate this, I'm sure the OP would appreciate it.
