Ithacus,
Sorry, I still mix up Lou Smith and Sheldon Smith... And although I mixed up Sheldon and Lou, I did not forget the gist of what was said in my interviews with ...
but before I address any of your questions...lets ALL find out if your one way first.... perhaps you could tell the BBS readers a few details about Emil Flues ...something of substance like the posts I've posted above...Something that will show the outside readers that in the name of adademic pursuit and openess , that you're truly "on board" and not just looking out for your own self interests...We've already got all the patent numbers...perhaps you could shed some light on Emils association with Robert Wrege, or Harry Pope, or Rudolph Kornbrath, or Charles Newton, or Fred Adolph, or Haille Selassie...or James Packard...if you choose to be a one way street, then unfortunately I will be forced to fold...it's your move...

Will the real Walter Snyder please stand up.

I guess before we understand any of the financial troubles Ithaca was experiencing and therefore have to dig their way out of through their constant change of designs throughout the period where LC Smith, Parker and Remington were its competition we would have to look back to find out why the first hammerless models like the Crass, Lewis and the Manier models did not compare favorable in the shooting public and buying public's mind to the Parker, LC Smith or Remington???
Complicated design??? some people think, even today and on this board, that the Parker is overly complicated...What else then detracted people from buying the early Ithaca?? Was it the Baker designed hammer gun??
All the best

It's a bit hard to understand how anyone could tool or re-tool to build something as complex as a double shotgun like a Lewis without someone or anyone having to invest heavily in the jigs and fixtures...then before the fixtures have a chance to pay for themselves, they get scrapped in favor of an entirely new design which require all new jigs and fixtures...not just twice, but three times in about three years...I guess by Walt's figuring, the guys on the line must have collectively passed the hat to pay for all these changes, completely eliminating investors from the equation...How could I have been so dyslexic?

Mr. Chambers,
It does appear that Mr. Snyder holds all the cards so perhaps you should fold.

Beckner,
Perhaps you should give him time to respond for himself...I doubt that Walt holds any cards...

Referring to the comments about Conley's lack of expertise, I don't think anyone treats his fun little book as a piece of serious research. Certainly Mr. Conley doesn't. As Chambers mentions early on, the Flues Single Trap is certainly not engraved by Kornbrath as Conley implies. I would tend to agree with Chambers that Flues probably engraved it, although I have no knowledge of Flues, the engraver. I just feel very confident not attributing it to RK.

Eightbore,
I believe that Emil also engraved that Ballard copy pictured earlier in this thread...I'm sorry that I'm not free to just post all the data, but you can guess what would happen... You know enough about guns to know Kornbrath engraving when you see it, and hopefully you'll know whether of not Walt is bluffing...in fact his challenge to my post was bait, to see if I would just unload my research in order to meet his challenge...
I was just speaking off hand, as I said earlier in this thread that my Flues folder(s) were not handy...

Casey...perhaps you can't read...you must give Walt time to speak for himself...incase you haven't noticed, I haven't posted any new data since his challenge...essentially, I have folded already...in fact I only started this thread at the request of another member...you should probably know that for years, I freely gave all my Ithaca research over to Walt, as did others, until we realized that he was stonewalling us...but perhaps it would be better if Walt explaines to everyone why the most important chapter in the Ithaca story is strangly missing from his book...go look...there's next to nothing

Casey, I did ask Robert to give us something on Emil Flues because of some photos of Flues' Buffalo shop which he posted previously and which piqued my curiosity. Walt is certainly the acknowledged expert and can deal with any challenge to the facts as he knows them. I don't think Robert's thread was intended to poke Walt in the eye initially and I hope it's not about that now but let it play out.
