Can you help me please with identification this sidelever Hahndrilling? It is made in caliber 16/65 - 9,3 x 72R and 20/65 - 6,5 x 58R. There are names of the gunmakers on the top bars: Andreas August Ahl - Bonn and Eduard Kettner Köln. On the action is the mark [b]C.F.. This mark is also on the bottom of the barrel. I think it might be a brand of Christoph Funk. But what about the other marks on the barrels - circled in red in the pictures? The mark of the >>S<< in a Chevron denotes tube work by the Schilling Forge.

Also present is the post WWII mark(Reproof) of the München Proof Facility. There's also the repair mark on the water-table.

Büchsenmacher Ahl looks to have hung out his gunmaking shingle circa 1891 and peddled his wares thru a couple portals in Bonn, with one being Römerplatz 1. There may have been an association w/ Reeb of Bonn or Reeb may have absorbed Ahl??

Wolfgang might well have known them....

There just aren't a lot of possibilities for a mechanic w/ the initials >>C.F.<< with 3 possibilities:

Carl Fleischer - Mehlis

Christoph Funk - Suhl

C.A. Funk - Suhl

Now, I would sort or rule out Carl/Karl due to the use of the K for Karl up until a certain date that they began using C for Carl.... Too, I think it might be a Suhl mechanic so that would rule out Büchsenmacher Fleischer.....

Might you pleasure us w/ the full ensemble of marks, including both tubesets?? If you do now wish to deal with postin' images, you can forward them directly with me?

Is this the same mark you posted or the same mark on a different tubeset?

Thank you very much for your answer. Here are some additional photos: The Action: [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc], barrel set from Andreas August Ahl Bonn am Rhein: [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc], [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] and barrel set from Eduard Kettner: [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] .Sorry for the quality of the photos, I didn't have much time. Do you think the numbers 131, 239, 491 are proof dates? This drilling seems older than 1931...

No, those are serial numbers associated with the Suhl mechanic that pushed the longarm thru the Suhl Proof facility. Another slight possibility is that one is that of the additional maker; another of Ahl and another of Kettner??

I for sure can see a Nitro stamp on the side of the 20 bore platform. I think I see a Nitro stamp on the side of the 16 bore platform. So it was made in Suhl between 1912 & 1914/1915. Then there were some alterations or improvements that warranted the additional proof efforts.

Yes I see the stamp of Eagle Nitro on the side of the 16 bore platform so I hold with the above.

The number >>231<< looks to be the serial nummer of the actual maker....

Red encircled touchmarks are the original 1912-1914/1915 proof effort.

Yellow encircled touchmarks are those of a Re-Proof effort - not sure of this date? Possible between 1914/1915 & 1923??

Blue encircled touchmarks are those of München.

There is ones more number on the extractors on barrel sets Nr. 286 and the München proof marks. That's why I thought that 491 is serial number, 231 is first proof date, 139 repair proof date and 286 München proof date. But that was my amateur guess :-))

Too there are some worn marks here. Looks like a bunch of Chicken Scratching, but it is all German Chicken Scratching......

I am still puzzled why there isn't a date associated with the last proof effort.

The following entry can be found in the Bonn address book of 1902:

Adresse Poststr. 15
Ort Bonn

Ahl

Profession master gunsmith. Gun factory. Dealer in weapons, ammunition and hunting articles.
Address Poststr. 15

Unfortunately I can't find a connection to Reeb...
