This showed up on ebay and is claimed to be original paper, though the source is not listed. I thought maybe a modern graphic design production as I can not find anything about Penn Arms Co. nor ID the American boxlock illustrated

BUT this is in the ad section of the November 1897 "Recreation"

Cornell Pubs has an 1892 SD&G catalog repro but Penn Arms is not listed
https://cornellpubs.com/product/1017/

nor is it in the 1903 catalog
https://cornellpubs.com/product/1186/

Has anyone encountered a Penn Arms Co. shotgun?

Stating the obvious, it must have been manufactured in 1897??? Short-Lived machine made gun.....

I think it was in the mid 1880s that S,D&G moved from 84 & 86 Chambers(Sloan's Sporting Goods Co. was @ 88 Chambers) in the mid 1880s??

Below is some text I lifted and I am not sure of its accuracy???

>> 302 Broadway NYC circa 1903. Moore's sold out to SD&G in late 1887 and they were located at the same place. The 12 story Building was Beautiful and known as the Vincent building, on the corner of Broadway and Duane street, and owned by the Astor family, and later owned by Fordham university in the 1940's. It was demolished in 1961.<<

Nothing really to do w/ the >>Penn Shotgun<<....

>>The VINCENT BUILDING, owned by the Estate of William Astor, is situated at i he south-east corner of Broadway and Duane Street and has a frontage of fifty-one feet on Broadway and one hundred and ten feet on Duane Street. It was designed by Mr. George B. Post, Architect, and erected by the Tide-Water Building Company.<<

Not of topic either but interesting Tid-Bit on Overbaugh:

>>C E. OVERBAUGH & Co. Manufacturers and Dealers in Guns,
Rifles, and Sporting Goods, Nos 2(5 and 267 Broadway.-A
reliable and successful house engaged in the manufacture
and sale of guns and sporting goods in the metropolis is
that of Messrs. C. E. Overbaugh & Co., whose shop and salesroom
are situated at Nos. 265 and 267 Broadway. This business was
established in 1878 by Mr. C. E. Overbaugh who is sole proprietor.
Since July, 1880, Mr. Overbaugh has added first-class gun and
rifle work to his business. The premises occupied are commodious and are fully stocked with a superior assortment of guns
and rifles of the latest and most improved patterns, ammunition of
all descriptions, and first-class sporting gocds, which are offered to
customers at exceedingly moderate prices. These goods are unsurpassed for quality, reliability, workmanship, and general excellence
by those of any other first-class house in the trade, and are general
favorites with hunters, wherever introduced. They do not propose
to do a clap-trap business, advertising goods with fancy brands and
fraudulent and misleading descriptions, but to do a square business,
buying their goods at the lowest rates, and giving their customers the
benefit of their ability and experience. They believe that in New
York there is a grand opening for a house of this kind that will supply consumers at popular prices, and they propose to fill the bill. As
to their reputation for fair dealing. they refer to the Wlnchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven and New York; Colt's Fire Arms Co.,
Hartford; Parker Bros., Meriden and New York, manufacturers;
and Schoverling, Daly & Gales, Hartley & Graham, John P. Moore's
Sons, and H. Boker & Co., the leading wholesale houses in New
York; also, the Merchants' Exchange National Bank. They guarantee every article as rerepresented, and money will be refunded
if satisfaction is not given on any of the goods named in this
catalogue. All orders will have especial prompt attention. New
York is the only market where a full line of fire-arms and equipments are kept in stock, and their facilities enable them to fill all
orders with the promptest dispatch. Mr. Overbaugh makes a
specialty of manufacturing fine shot guns and rifles, and numbers
among his customers many of the best shots in the United States.
He Was born in Catskill, N. Y., and came to the metropolis in 1850.
where he is highly esteemed by the community for his mechanical
skill, and the success achieved by him is as substantial as it is well
merited. Mr. Overbaugh's family is one of the oldest in the East,
Overbaugh, a town in the State of New York, being named after one
of his ancestors, who came to this country in 1728.<<

Preacher, I briefly looked at a Penn Arms Co. shotgun at a small gun show at the Wurtemburg, Pa. Fire Dept. 10-15 years ago, when I was hitting a gun show just about every weekend in the cooler months.

I always take at least a quick look at anything with two barrels in a side by side configuration. This Penn Arms gun I looked at was a 12 gauge in very poor wallhanger condition. It was a field grade, and looked like it had been left out in a field for a while. I think it had fluid steel barrels, but it isn't a gun burned in my memory at all. I remember thinking it was probably some cheap hardware store gun, or maybe a JABC. I'm surprised to see it was sold for $25.00 in 1897, when low grade Ithacas, L.C. Smiths, or Lefevers were around the same cost. It's hard to believe this gun ever had comparable quality. I wasn't interested enough to even ask the price.

Somewhere, I have a book called "Side by Sides of the World" by Charles Carder. It is an extensive compilation of different brands and models of double barrel shotguns, many of which I had never heard of. For quite a few of them, he didn't offer up much information at all. But that might be a good place to find at least something about this gun company.

A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.
