I found a F Dumoulin & Cie Liege 20 gauge yesterday at a local shop. It sports 30” barrels with great bores. This hammer gun seems to have been well cared for and comes in a A&F leather case. It is tight on face and locks up tight. Wood is in excellent condition. It has pretty plain simple scroll engraving. I am unfamiliar with the maker and am wondering about what others thoughts are on this maker. I plan to take another look at it this morning and will take pictures.

Dumoulin , like many. Belgian makers, could make guns from the highest quality, to a lower price point. I have a steel barreled hammer Dumoulin with deep chiseled engraving and gold names. It is a rather high quality gun. I don’t know what the A and F case is like. It could be worth a few hundred in itself. Being a 20 gauge hammer gun is a step up in value.

They made good, serviceable guns. Plenty of them around.
Out there doing it best I can.

The lettre annale is a ' g' for 1928 Cornell Pubs has an A&F 1929 catalog but it may not have been an A&F gun. The ones I've seen had the chamber length indicated in inches. This one has FOR ABERCROMBIE & FITCH CO. on the R barrel https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/48/1616/cased-dumoulin-box-lock-model-double-barrel-shotgunhttps://cornellpubs.com/product/874/The tubes are fluid steel by Laurent Lochet-Habran and are Smokeless Powder proved, which was mandatory after 1924 Chambers 65 mm = 2 1/2" At the time of proof the barrels weighed 1.369 Kg = or 3.02 #. If > 3% less now (from honing) they would be considered out of proof The bore of 15.9 mm = .626" is odd; 20g was usually 15.6 mm = .615". The 9 may have actually been stamped upside down. Muzzle dimensions were not marked after 1924

Thank you for the information Doc. Im Looking forward to shooting it on some dairy birds soon. The case with the reloading items, the leather box, and cleaning rod was a real plus. Chokes are open, and the bores measure very close to .626 and the chambers are 2 1/2”. I will need to weight the barrels.

Thanks I had never seen a separate small box for reloading items and tools. I didn't realize the small kit was in the case until I got it home. Very nice surprise.

Thanks for the photos. Nice case. Very unusual arrangement. When I first saw it and asked for pictures I was thinking it appeared to be a hinged case. This one all the more interesting.

Very nice gun and case. Is the case made of thick leather or does it have some kind of composite covered by leather?

I would like to repair the leather folder hinge area where it is torn on the reloading tool box. Has anyone used a product to do such a repair? I did find that there are a number of leather repair products available but I hope someone here has actually used a product that they have personally tried that has worked for them.

That is a nice case. It it deserves a quality repair. If you have any saddlemakers in your area, start there. Don't settle for a second rate repair on a nice solid firearm! I have a 20 ga, Doumoulin o/u w/ double triggers. It is probably my favorite gun. Gil Russell Tucson AZ

I have the 1936 A&F catalog from Cornell. It leads off with several pages covering Francottes but has nothing on Dumoulins.
