The Cowans/Hindman auction just ended a few days ago and I completely missed it. This gun sold and to me epitomizes everything a small elegant double rifle should be. The price it brought (half the estimate) includes the premium.

Also, if this isn't close to a near perfect pair of practical English small bores, I don't know what would fill the bill. These guns also did not make the estimate.

The .240 does indeed look like a good buy on a nice rifle.

I never see guns of this quality on their auction. It's usually just a bunch of Mossberg 500s or some single barreled junk. Am I missing something?

The folks from Cowans were at the Southern last month with that rifle. Beautiful piece. Colors look great in real life and engraving was sharp. I didn't ask to assemble it, but did hold the stocked action.

I have seen a lot of pricey and significant guns there. I have purchased high graded Ithaca's and Parkers there, some nice European doubles etc. They may sell a few low end modern guns, but their real business in the past has been really old militaria and weapons. They are basically a high end art and collectible auction house. They are currently selling Madeline Albrights estate via several auctions. I have seen guns go in the upper 5 figure and low 6 figure range.
