I've tried both calling and e-mailing to get an answer as to whether Mike Orlen works on 10 gauge barrels and haven't heard back. His web site doesn't list them.

Does anyone know if he does? I'd prefer to have the answer before sending the set I have so as to avoid a round trip shipping charge for no purpose if the answer is "no".

Thanks.

Just spoke w/Mike and he does work on 10ga., he'll open fixed chokes. If you want tubes installed on a SxS the problem is no one makes thin wall tubes anymore in 10ga and they are what's needed for SxS's. You find the tubes and he'll install them.

11:15am 11/30 he's answering the phone.

Just curious, what are having done? I have a AYA 10 that should have the chokes opened but I'd rather have the tubes if I can find them.

Recoil,
I know it is expensive but Briley does thin wall in 10ga shotguns. I had a Beretta SxS done. Just remember to get a pipe wrench to take them in and out.

Rob:

This is a Darne 10 gauge with 2-7/8 inch chambers, probably pre-1900, that has some of roughness in the barrels. I had the exterior refinished (it had been badly done and I had it redone properly) and I'd like to get the bores up to the condition of the rest of the gun. I'm trying to decide what to adjust the chokes to, as they are extremely tight and even tighter right now. I was thinking turkey, ducks and late season wild pheasants, so I don't want to open them very much. The gun weighs 7 pounds, 1 ounce, so the heaviest loads will be RST (or handloaded) 1-1/4 ounce. Mostly, I shoot 1-1/16 ounce or 1-1/8 ounce loads in it now.

I'm thinking something like 25 thousandths in the right and 40 thousandths in the left, but am willing to listen to other suggestions and have contacted RST to ask if they have a recommendation for their non-tox loads. I'm definitely not going to put screw-ins into the gun.

Sounds nice, good luck with it.

Do you have many wild pheasants in PA or do you travel for them?

Thanks, Rob

Darn few wild pheasants in PA. The only big birds we have in abundance are turkeys, resident [lazy] geese, hawks and owls.

Rob:

You have to travel for wild pheasants. My brother and I are planning a trip out west to do a week of pheasant hunting, although it's probably two years out due to our both having multiple children in college at this time.

Dogfox:

I'm all too aware of the dearth of wild birds in PA. I started hunting here in 1965 and have done so virtually every year since then, with four years out in the 1978-1981 period for military service. I've gone from being able to hunt wild birds within a 20 minute drive of my home to having to drive an hour plus just for a preserve hunt. I'm not real fond of progress, at least of that type.

Rem,

Same here in NY. To us a "wild" bird is one that makes it from one weekend till the next.
