One thing for sure, your only going to get 1 shot
I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

Good thing that they know what a fair starting price is to open the auction. For that much money they had better know what it is and who made it. Not just that it is a old odd ball and we have never seen anything like it before.
Sellers can be just a little off the mark some times and this is one of them. Unless you knew who made it and what it was why would anyone ever bid $950.00 for this gun? It is not that interesting, has no history attached, not in the best condition and is just another inventers wet dream that failed to catch on. The world is full of them in guns and none of them are worth a grand. But I am or was a bottom feeder on klunkers.

Jon, You bring up a good point. What do you think it would sell for? I would give $400 for it but I like wierd guns. That was my problem at Vegas last year, too many interesting guns. Ross

Reb87,
If I had it I would sell it to you for $400.00. If there is no pattent, which I suspect is the case, it is a gunsmiths creation. Was it meant to be a camp gun, a gentlemans toy or a boys first real gun? To me it is a zip gun for shotgun shells. Very crude but I am sure that it works. But I am not firing any of those wally world shells in that baby. It must weight all of three pounds and it kicks like ten mules. Ouch.
In fact if you get me the specs I am sure that I could make you one on my metal lathe in about a day, action and all. That is not a John Browning creation. More like a Gomer Browning creation.

I think it is sort of neat. The workmanship, except for the trigger guard, is not bad at all - wood to metal fit and everything. I suspect a shop made creation for fun, perhaps. The screw in barrel makes it a very slow repeater, and why in the world make it fold? The stock looks like a Whitney - Kennedy as does the hammer, but it could be a Winchester model 1873 part.
Age? Circa 1880-1885 Ill bet.
I would find it interesting to examine, but only bid about 150 or so. $ 950 is a ood deal hopeful, in my opinion.
Regards

I saw one of these on one of the gunshows on OLN a few months ago when they went to a gunshow and someone had it for sale. I believe they said a guy made them up in Massachusetts.
