It comes up now, thanks. It is obviously well used, but the action is still tight. The Jaeger action has a reputation for that.

thanks to all for your comments. obviously the gun is over priced; rather like canvasback, I think $800-1000 is a sensible range - if the condition is as good as the limited photos indicate. seller has upgraded his photos by publishing those he had sent me, but he has ignored my request for weight and a simple verbal description of the bores.

wolfgang has offered a useful current comparison in the mother country. it obviously has seen more field use, better engraving - but lacking the unusual carved balls. my comment is that surely there are more of these guns in Germany - they are quite unusual stateside. I tend to be interested in the unusual, and it seems this gun is a fully functional oddity - two birds with one stone....suppose I will maintain a watch and if he signals a willingness to reconsider pricing I will renew my requests for additional information.

I have been through my (almost) complete shelf of DGJ, and find no mention of this action/gun/patent. this forum, as usual, comes through with enough information to stand head & shoulders above the crowd. appreciate your time and assistance.

I do not know if this is in any way applicable or not. I have a reprint of a 1911 ALFA catalog, Arms of the World. In it are listed hammer doubles under the name Record as well as hammerless doubles under the names of Rekord & Remo. All have the dual underlugs, one under each barrel instead of one lug in the middle, All are to bolted, some with a wedge cross bolt & others with a "Greener" style cross-bolt. All except the Remo have monoblock barrels & all were listed with Ingot Steel Barrels & some carried a smokeless powder proof.
I don't recall if it was stated on all of them or not but at least the Remo was listed as being made in Suhl Germany.

There is a discussion of this action in a article about Franz Jaeger by his grandson Dietrich Apel, in the German Gun Collectors Assn. journal "Der Waffenschmeid". A copy may still be available from the "home office". They have a website.

The Record gun is different from the Jaeger action. The Record action is made by the Belgian company Scholberg & Delheid. In the 1908 issue Number 1 of "Waffe und Schuss", there is an article (in German) of the Record action:

If I see right, it was a Belgian invention, later used by Simson-Jaeger.

the side by side double under lug is uniquely different...have not seen that before...wonder why that design was not more popular?

Only the best designs last the test of time and that design didn't pass the test.
