Today I decided to stop being so lazy. I checked the sight base and it is definitely the correct long slide base that matches the slide the seller sent me. I wish the blank was for a long slide. I also decided to substitute my vintage Redfield 3-9X Accu-range scope that has given me great service on every rifle I tried it on for 55 years. for the even older Weaver scope My groups have now shrunk to 1 1/4". In regards to the scopes, after paying for the rifle, the seller told me when he first bought it, it had a Weatherby double turret scope on it with "Curtis Lemay" engraved on it. Since this was well after the deal was made, I believed him.
I looked through some of my old catalogs and decided the stock was definitely made by Towsend Whelen's company.
