Guys-

Looking for information as to who would be great at repairing a german scope here in the US. The scope on the below gun needs to be internally cleaned. You can look through the scope but the vision is cloudy from dirt I believe.

I just received a gun I have long desired. Its a Mauser that was liberated from a German big game hunter. The rifle was built in 1929, is very tastefully engraved, has a beautiful quarter rib, has a quick off scope mount that you can look through to see the iron sites on the barrel and is a perfect example of german engineering, set double triggers and a very interesting and striking stock.

This gun was brought back by a friend of my grandfathers and then he obtain it back in 1950 or so. His brother came to own it and he sold it to me last week. Its a gun I have wanted for years and glad to have it home.

Coryreb,

Try: www.newenglandcustomgun.com

Dietrich Apel is probably the most knowledgable person about German guns and accoutrements in the US.

Good luck.

Perhaps an inexpensive alternative based on my only experience. They're still in business: In 2009, I used ABO (USA), INC. of 14041 SW 139th Ct., Miami, FL 33186 telephone 305-859-2010 (www.abousainc.com), manager's name is Shin. They don't shy away from "vintage" nor "german." Crux of their business is servicing Redfield/Tasco etc... I was told the repairmen are South Americans (Argies) specially trained in scope repair. They fixed what I thought was a loss - vintage German AJACK (A.JACKENKROLL) scope on a 7x57 August Schuler. Hazy view as if vaseline was inside, yellowing, wasn't even hitting paper at 50yds. Then I realized the front bell was bent sideways about 1/3 cm (funny the auction house didn't disclose the bend!). ABO USA couldn't guarantee against breaking the scope due to how badly the scope was bent, however, they straightened it. According to their invoice, for $70, they 'Cleaned; Aligned; Resealed; Reset the objective; Reticle parallax-optical center-POI; Straightened the bent tube; Re-treated the optical lens; Repaired the separated erector lenses.' Shoots fine now and clear as crystal. Excuse gratuitious pics previously posted on single's forum:

If you look you can see the silvered discoloration of the tube below the knurling and how badly it was bent leftward!

Thank you for your post. The Mauser looks very similar to yours except is a 8x57. Nice gun!
