HI, I am working on some guns for a kid in WV. His grandpap died and left him some guns. The young man needs money so I am trying to make the most for him. Pretty sure this gun started life as a double rifle. You can see in the pics one bore has been reamed but faint rifling remains. It is approximately 1840 to 1860. It is approximately 45 cal. You can see the faint letter of what I assume is the maker. The #6 and the letter C are prevelent throughout the gun. Any information will be appreciated. The boys mom has a substance abuse problem. This is a chance for gun guys do to something good. https://imgur.com/a/tJnaVB3 Thanks Tom

The action reminds me of a Mowery. I wonder if one barrel was reamed out because a previous owner couldn't get two rifle barrels to shoot together. Just "bald face" speculation.

Are there any proofmarks on the water table or flats on the the barrel flats?

The angle of the hammers suggests it may have been a pinfire. If so, it's more than likely to be of European origin. It was not unusual for guns of that period to have one barrel smooth bored and the other rifled, in the Paradox style. Certainly muzzleloading double guns are found that way.

There are no proof marks on the barrel flats. In an out the only marks are 6 & C. It has alway been percussion. If you look closely at the pictures you can see traces of rifling oi the bored barrel. Thought it might be a Cape Gun but 99% sure it started out a double gun. I keep hoping someone will see the letters visable and a bell will ring on the maker. Thanks for you comments Tom
