I just received results from a submitted load using proreach powder. Its 8k psi and 1246fps.
We all know low pressure loads in 28ga are not common, so I'd be happy to share if you need it.

What is pro reach, Bill? I've had Armbrust to test loads, and know that there are other testing facilities, but never heard of pro reach.

Pro Reach is an Alliant powder designed for long distance 12 gauge shooting.

The burn rate

I've long understood why progressive burning powders help long range patterns, but I guess had assumed that the "pinnacle" had been reached in that development. Has there been any independent testing done to validate the claims that it is a superior powder in that regard ..........with long range patterning, compared to other slow burning powders?

Don Zutz published an article "Tricks Powders Play" in the 90s reporting improved patterns with Green Dot and Solo 1250. I could not find the original on the internet.

I could not find a pattern study comparing slow and fast powders by Neil Winston. I believe it is an accurate reflection of his opinions that pellet hardness/resistance to deformation is the primary determinant of pattern efficiency, with some contribution from wad design.

The testing was done by Precision Reloading using Proreach powder, Cheddite primers, red dusters and AAHS hulls.

What prompted the testing was years ago, Alliant had published what they claimed was a low pressure load in 28ga using proreach. I bought a pound and liked the way it patterned. Then I purchased 20 lbs for personal stock. Someone had the load tested a few years after, and informed Alliant that their load was considerably higher pressure than they were stating. Alliant pulled all of the proreach loads in 28ga. So, I had 20 lbs of proreach and no 28ga load for it. Now after testing, I have a low pressure load with great velocity using Proreach.

Word to the wise, if you are looking for a low pressure load, have your choice confirmed. Ill never again trust published load data.
