I am looking at a motor case purchase of a leather case from either Jeff’s Outfitters or CSMC for a 28in Boss 12ga SLE.

Looking for input on the the relative quality of one versus the other as well as does the higher price point of CSMC get that much more quality of construction?

Mike,
I've been more than happy with the two I purchased from Jeff's.

If you are talking about the motor case and not the standard leather type case, I prefer CSMC cases because they do not have that crazy combination lock.
I have my Purdey in a motor case but it is a 28" case from the UK. Looks a lot like the one CSMC sells.
I love it and the gun looks great in it.

I haven’t bought a motor case but have bought several all leather and leather and canvas cases from both.

They are quite close in quality but I prefer Jeff’s cases. In particular the all leather toe under.

The only one I’ve had a problem with was a CSMC all leather. The wrist strap came off. Simply was glued on. Not impressed as the only way to fix is either Re glue so it will fail again or rivet through to the exterior. Neither are good solutions.

I haven't owned a CSM case, but have seen several. Compared to Jeff's all leather cases which he says are sourced and made in Mexico, I couldn't justify the cost difference to CSM's leather ones. I believe Jeff's wrist straps are riveted on.

Karl

The pictures of your cases are not considered motor cases

Motor cases open from the top and the gun drops down in

John,
I realize my cases are different, I just wanted to depict the quality that I had. Jeff's motor cases are of the same quality, just a different configuration.

I have a motor case from Jeff's, many years old and the only negative are the straps. You might consider contacting Mathew Hanson. He was at the Medford shoot and rebuilds vintage case to custom fit your gun.

Thank you for making me google that term. It's something I need, but didn't know existed.

Reason I think I need one is that it doesn't look like the modern plastic longarm cases one sees at Canadian Tire. To the urban, non-shooting public, it's more apt to say, "Oh, he's carrying a bassoon or a matched pair of clarinets." And I like that idea because I live on the top floor of a four-story apartment building, have to use the stairs that go by everybody's peepholes to get to my parking garage, frequently meet folks in the stairwells, and am away from home a lot. I do everything possible to prevent people from thinking, that guy's got an apartment full of longarms, and I ain't seen his Toyota in a week....

"Hey, Fudd! What's in the funky box?"

"Oh, just an old wooden painter's easel."

"Oh, really? Why's it got a combination lock?"

"Because art is dangerous."

Hrm. I should probably order the optional cloth cover.

I carry my browning O/Us in the brown hardcases, and I have been asked about the type of instrument I play more than once.
