Hopefully Ed will be along to tell us the story of his Remington Model 12 stocked by Thomas Shelhamer.

Is this maybe the Mod 52? It's hard to see the action. If it's a Rem.Mod 12,it is the only one like that in the world.

No if its a Model 12 I just checked my safe and mine is still there.

I have no idea what the rifle is, just a cool picture to take up space until Ed tells his story.

I know Mr. Shelhamer had a least two 52 Winchester sporters and that one is not. Could very well be a centerfire I'm clueless.

I can't add anything about the above picture or the model 12, but here are a few pictures from Dowagiac. A friend of mine took them for me. My understanding is that they have a Shelhamer display at a local museum.

Michael and All

As I mentioned before, I got the Model 12 as the consolation prize when dividing my Dad's gun collection. My Dad, Ed,Sr., was employed by the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo as a hospital sales manager at the time. I don't remember whether it was the hospital in Niles or Dowagiac, but my dad was conversing with one of the nurses there about hobbies and the subject of gun collecting arose. She said that her dad was a gun stockmaker named Tom Shelhamer and of course my dad knew all about Mr Shelhamer. This was probably in the late 1970's after Mr Shelhamer was dead.

Anyway, the daughter asked my dad back to her mother's house for tea and Mrs Shelhamer told my dad that she had one last piece from her husbands collection. It was a Remington Model 12 (22 Rem Sp) that he made just for her. In fact, there is a photo of Mr Shelhamer and this gun and a short article in the inset of a Shooters Bible. I have the magazine somewhere with all my dads stuff. Mrs Shelhamer didn't have any use for it and was looking for someone that would appreciate her husbands talent. She found a good home for it with my dad.

It's a cute little thing and I have never shot it but when I take it out of my gun safe and wipe it down I do feel a little closer to my dad. RIP.

Great story, thank you for sharing. Of course we all love pictures. I assume this is not the gun in the display in the above photo.

Thanks again,
John
