I just purchased a Merkel O/U 16ga over 7.8x57mm and am looking for ammo. Have some back ordered from Grafs in Mexico,Mo but they could not say when it would be available. Same story on Midway. It is a rimmed cartridge with .318 bullets. Would appreciate help locating a box to get it sighted in.

This cartridge is typically known as 8x57JR(or IR). The 7.8 and 57 are the bore( not groove or bullet) diameter and case length and are placed by the proof house.The same numbers will be found on rifles chambered for 8x57R/360.If the cartridges you backordered will not chamber, this is likely the reason.S&B 8x57JR ammo has recently been avaliable and you might find a box "in stock" somewhere. I suggest you try J&G Sales,Huntington Die Specialities, or Buffalo Arms.Some local dealers will have some also, so that means a "yellow page search" and phone calls. Components are avaliable and it is easy to load for.

there is a place I have purchased ammo in the past for my drillings called Ammo to Go. They have 8X57JR in stock. Here is a link to their page. It is S&B, I have shot it before and it is decent ammo and price is quite reasonable in my opinion..
They show both (JR and JRS) on this page so make sure to order the right one.
