I have heard from 2 of our UK gun dealers planning on coming to the Vintage Cup this month that US Airways has failed to renew a UK required hazardous cargo permit. Apparently this permit allows USAirways to carry hazardous materials like guns. The old permit lapsed Sept 1st.
US Airways here in the states knows nothing about restrictions coming from the UK.
The word in the UK is that it will be 2 months to get a new permit. In the meantime US Airways cannot accept firearms for transport, or any other cargo deemed "hazardous", which is a pretty long list in the UK.
UK rules do not allow you to leave your guns behind. If the guns don't get on your flight, neither will you. There used to be some gun brokers who would pickup your guns and store them when this happened, but there is no list I am aware of.
One of the dealers is using a 3rd party shipping company to get the guns over, the other is bringing non-gun items such as makers cases and accessories.
Are there any UK readers who can shine a light on this? I know Shooting Times has been called. They may have a note in their next issue.
Bottom line is if you are flying US Airways to or from the UK in the next couple of months with guns, please check ahead.

Thanks,

Joe
