Hi all:
I haven’t posted much on this forum as I am mostly interested in single shot riles and Smith & Wesson revolvers. I do have a few Remington 1894’s. Anyway I thought I would post a poor photo of my four Hepburn’s.

The one on top started out as an action I won at the Greg Martin Auction last year. I had it stocked with a piece of walnut I purchased 35 years ago. It is now a 38-50 Hepburn with a 10” twist Pacnor barrel.

The next one started out life as a 25-20 straight, later converted to 25-20 WCF. When I bought it, it had been sleeved to .22LR. I had it barreled to 32-40 with a 10” twist using a Lilja 8mm barrel.

Third from the top had been sportized to 219 Zipper improved when I purchased it. It is now a 38-50 with a 12” twist Lilja barrel.

The bottom one is a 45-70 .

I use the top three to compete in BPCR Silhouette matches. The 32-40 with the fast twist and 270 grain bullets will take down the rams at 500 meters.

MJS,
I've always been a fan of sidelevers. Looks like you need to know somebody that checkers! That rifle on top looks very good, who did the work?
Nice bunch of rifles, & I've been aquiring S&W revolvers for most of 30 years.
Best,
Steve

Very nice collection! They're all very nice Hepburns! That's some gorgeous wood on the top gun!
I have half as many Hepburns, but I'd sure like a couple more some day!-Vall

This is one I rebuilt from a wreck:

And this is one that had a chopped down barrel, that John Taylor brought back to full length for me!

Jerry Vanwey in Raton NM did the work on the top gun. George from Treebone in Cimmaron NM roughed out the wood and Jerry did the rest. He did the case colors also. I am very pleased with that rifle. If I could find someone local,(San Francisco Bay Area)to do the checkering I would probably have it checkered. I really do not want to ship this rifle after reading so many horror stories of lost and damaged guns in transit.

That Hepburn you rescued from a wreck sure does look nice. It is a beautiful rifle. The wood on the top rifle was purchased 35 years ago. I was saving if for a special gun. I finally realized that if I did not use it soon it could end up as fire wood after I passed on so when I won the Hepburn action I knew what needed to be done. I had actually been thinking of using it on one of my 1894 Remingtons.

MJS, As a possibility for checkering your Hepburn(s), have you thought of Keith M Heppler, 540 Banyan Cir, Walnut Creek Phone 925-934-3509? He is a Guild member who specializes in stockmaking.

MJS, how come the .38-50 instead of the .38-55? Tradition? Easier to load? Or is it based on a different case altogether? Inquiring minds want to know!

Loverly rifles! The rolling block was a great military rifle in its day, but a Hepburn is a work of art!

The 38-50 is based on the 30-40 Krag. Think of a 30-40 blown out to .375. It has more capacity then the 38-55 which is essentially a 30-30 blown out to .375. I compete in BPCR Silhouette and the 38-50 has what it takes to take down the rams at 500 meters.

It’s not a Hepburn, but close.
