Cut a piece of paper and attach it to the hook with some grease.
It will last a couple hundred rounds. :-)

Dave, well, that's 1 way, and would be good if at the range, or hunting camp, for a quick fix. Now, let's hear some more?

thanks

Mike Orlen and others do it by soldering a piece of shim stock to the hook, using a round piece of rod the same size as the hinge pin to clamp it in place and make the finished job turn out round, as well. Temporary cpuld be as Dave suggested or gluing a piece of shim stock using super glue, either to the hook or the hinge pin.
A set of transfer punches will give you a wide variety of sizes, for about $10.

"Best" and "quickest/easiest" ain't gonna' be the same thing. The paper shim is likely the easiest, the metal shim maybe next, "Best" will prolly be replacing the pin. I don't know squat about a Parker, though. That would likely be "best" with other designs.

So how would you tighten up a gun that has side play in the dolls head?

Has anyone ever tried "stippling" the pin or the hook?

I asked much same question several months ago and got various suggestions. Initially, I used some "scotch tape" which worked will for a round of sporting clays. Then I cut a shim from a thin Al can and that has been in place for at least 6 rounds of trap and is till keeping barrels on face and will be repeated as needed. At some point I will have a local gunsmith solder a thin peice of metal (shim stock) onto the hook -- expected cost under USD100. This shim stock will have a few holes in line along its center to allow excess solder to flow into them, giving a good, tight fit of shim to hook. For hunting and a few tens of rounds of trap per year, this soldered shim is expected to be totally adequate for years. The gun is a 1890s Husqvarna hammer double with early fluid steel barrels.

The side play you see at the doll's head is not the fault of the doll's head, IMO. It wobbles because it it loose at the hook. The doll's head is not there to prevent side play. Again, JMO.

Lordy Mr. Binko --- better edit that suggestion before you draw fire. That is a real jury rigged solution & will win you no friends. I'm outta here before the firestorm that usually follows hits.
