I am considering placing a gun for auction with Rock Island Auction. I have never auctioned a firearm. Has anyone had any dealings with this company. Any advice on what to do or not to do? Any positive or negative experiences?

If it is a high end gun, you will have no problems. Make sure you know what the fee is up front. Find out which auction it is going to, regional or premium. The fees are different. Ask what they think it will sell for. They do get a great turn out. Frank

Frank, it is a high end gun. I have insurance with Historic Firearms (Eastern Insurance) and was advised by them, that when I ship the gun to Rock Island Auction that the gun is covered. Does that sound correct?

Good start. RIA has a pretty solid reputation. One question that's easy to answer for yourself, is whether or not the Reserve Price less fees will leave you with a fair return on the sale. Since you've noted this is a "high end" gun, I assume it will be in premium (nationally advertised) auction. Regional auctions feature guns of a lower value offered to more local and limited market size.
