Double gun enthusiasts- I am glad to have found this site, here's my initial posting: My favorite shotgun is a British gun with Birmingham stampings, as near as I can determine made between mid 20's and mid 50's. A beautiful boxlock 12 gauge with 28" barrels, typical straight stock and splinter fore-end, 2 1/2" chambers. I am interested in learning if possible its maker, as it is only marked "Harrod's" on the rib, no other writing that I can find anywhere except for a serial # on the trigger tang. I e-mailed Harrod's Dept. Store in England and got a nice answer that they did not keep records of their shotgun sales from that period, but that most of their guns were likely made by Webley&Scott. I cannot at this time post a photo or even a better description of my shotgun as I am away from home for a number more months at the behest of Uncle Sam, but wonder if any of the readers of this site might know any information to tell about shotguns from Harrod's. Thanks to all for a fun site, as it helps make a long deployment more bearable!

GWW, Welcome! Can't say positively about your gun, but if it is a W&S made gun it is a good one and likely similar to today's model 700 series. Perhaps when you are next home you can provide the specifics and then it should be possible to determine the exact make and model. Perhaps you can do a bit of surfing in the interim and see if a model 700 series W & S resembles your gun, e.g., rib treatment, trigger guard & action profiles, etc. Meantime, I'm sure others will add something actually substantive for you. Again, welcome!

Thank you very much for your service!! May you have a safe return to USA. Welcome here.
There is a fair to middlin' chance that it is a W&S Screw Grip action gun - the Screw Grip was very popular and made in many grades of both side lock and box lock. While not used for "best" quality grade guns, the top SG models were very good indeed.
I'll see if I can scroung up some photos and post them for your consideration.
Stay safe.

Thank you for your information- I know that without photographs it is not easy to tell very much, but your answers seem very knowledgablejust the same. Rest assured that I will examine this shotgun again in about eight months. GWW
