I purchased a 4lb container of Winchester Fuper field today. When I got home I decided to take my other container and put the two togerher to make one container.

I started to pur the powder into the new one and discovered that I was pouring Winchester Super Target. I poured between 15 and 20 drops of WST into the Winchester Super field.

After telling the guy in the mirror that he was purely stupid and not worthy of even breathing should I dump the new Canister of Super field?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you, Gordon

Joe, Good thought.

I think I am going to cut the top off of the bottle and see if there is any color difference in the two powders. If there is, I will remove the top inch or so of the powder. I did not move or shake the canister at tll so what fell into the bottle should be on the top of the WSF. If there is no color difference the whole thing is going to be disposed of. Sixty five bucks is a low price of not having an incident with faulty loaded shells.

Regards, Gordon

Will not try to dissuade you from throwing it out. If it were me, I'd mix the tiny fraction of one with the four pounds of the other and load as always low pressure. The risk should be far less than driving to where you hunt.

Gordon,
If it is possible to seperate the powder, I would, then use what you have removed as a fertiliser, put it round a plant special to you and when it bursts into bloom, thanks to the plant food it will remind you of your goof and bring a smile to your face.

Good heavans. Are you really going to risk injury or damage to one of your guns for $60.00 of powder? You made a mistake. Learn from it, do not take a risk of major injury. You need to know that what you are loading is safe to shoot. Without decent pressure readings of your loads, with a two powder mixture, you are a walking range safety problem. Putting yourself and those around you at risk.

Now if you are still willing to run the risk, then use your brain. Load five or ten shells up, with the mixutre, and have them pressure tested. It is not that hard to do and it does not cost that much. And if you are going to shoot around others you ought to do it for their safety as well as yours. If the load comes back at safe pressures then you know that you are OK. If it comes back too high you saved your gun and body.

Gordon,
Not a good thing, but as King said if you load low pressure, low velocity loads and if you can see the difference in powders and skim most of it off, and mix it thoroughly you should be fine.
You didn't specitfy in your 15-20 drops as to what grains it might have been. In the lower grainage, up to 20 grs., there is about 7 grains difference between the two, and naturally the WSF is higher grainage. When it gets up around 30 grains WST to WSF the difference is close to 12 grains.
Also I would use this in modern guns proofed to todays loads and also use it in 12 ga where the mix would be less WSF.

Winchester would tell you to use it as fertilizer or dispose of it safely. They are not going to tell you it is okay for reasons of liability.

There is a risk for sure, Jon, but my life has always been risk---wars and revolutions, flying, skydiving, scuba, volatile girlfriends as a young man--- and my assessment of this one is infinitesimally low.

Sort of reminds me of the lesson of knowing of a one-in-a-million chance of dying: flying 700 miles, driving 500 miles, working in a factory for 2 1/2 weeks or smoking two-thirds of a cigarette.

And sixty dollars seems a lot of money to me.
