I can't give you any help on your project, but I can only tell you how nice Birds-Eye Maple looks. A nearby Ljutic/Seitz dealer has a Silver Seitz that has it and I have been drooling over it for weeks. Ooooo-la-la!!

Thee very best method is to first finish sand the stock. Then brew strong tea...about 5 teabags in one cup then apply it to the stock. The stock is then placed in an enclosed container with a viewing window (plastic or glass). You then use commercial ammonmia (26-28%). You do NOT do this inside as it will set you free. When you like the color, stop. Expect 4-12 hours.

By the way, you put some of the commercial ammonia in a small tin...like a tuna fish can tin and the fumes do the rest. It is the best method I have ever seen.

Aqua Fortis is available from "Track of the Wolf", which is a blackpowder/reanactor company. They are at trackofthewolf.com. I have some sitting above my workbench. I'm just waiting for the project to come along. If you try going this route you may try a heat gun for a heat source. I would think you'd have a little better control. I've seen heated irons etc. also recommended. Which ever way you choose it should be worth the effort.
