One of my 42s has a Cutts which annoys other skeet shooters because it's so loud. So I made a sleeve that fits snugly inside the Cutts and blocks the slots to prevent the noise from escaping. The sleeve is 5/8" ID and does not interfere with the shot as it leaves the muzzle or the choke tube that screws on the end. I shot it yesterday at the patterning board and it seemed to shoot fine. I don't see how the sleeve can be a problem in any way. Does anyone disagree?

I thought the bumper jack section was in the Misfire forum.

I was hoping we could get into some good Model 42 discussion. Guess I overreacted. The little insert for the Cutts is a neat idea except that the noise is one of the charms of a .410 Cutts gun. Skeet shooters who complain about the Cutts know nothing about skeet. Skeet shooters were winning with Cutts guns in the thirties and they are winning with the Cutts today. The Cutts is not obsolete, it is still in widespread use. Skeet is shot with ear protection. Unlike trap, where shooters stand side by side, skeet shooters stand well behind the shooter on the station and should be quite oblivious of the sound of the gun being shot. You are dealing with whiners who don't know anything about the game.

Sounds like a neat idea to reduce the noise if that is indeed a problem. I can't see where it would harm anything if the insert can't/doesn't shift around at all and somehow block the bore. I'd agree w/eightbore on this one, and if the sounds of gunfire bother someone,,then the shooting sports are not what they should pursue. The Winchester 42 is certainly what I'd consider a 'fine firearm' and has been discussed and pictured here many times in the past. I think many others would agree.

M-42s aren't "fine firearms"? Bumper jacks? http://www.hermonskeetclub.com/The insert, properly executed, should work fine. But I'd just leave it loud and let your shooting answer the whiners. Sam

I was warned a few weeks ago about the possibility that fellow squad members might object to the noise from the collet adjustable Cutts on my m12 skeet grade. SGJones was particularly adamant that this would happen but so far no complaints?

I thought the bumper jack section was in the Misfire forum. Speaking of whiners!!!! You're a whiner of the first order! I think we will discuss any good gun here that feel like and whenever we want to.
