I just returned from a 3 day quail hunt at Quail Country Plantation and Pine Hill Plantation. I was hunting with my father and we had a great time. We are planning on taking the whole family back to Quail Country next season. My dad's birthday is in Feb and I was thinking about taking him to Riverview Plantation. Any thoughts on this place? Any other recommendations? Thanks

Adam, Riverview is Georgia's oldest and most established commercial quail hunting operation. Their grounds are located along the Flint river and are beautiful to hunt. The lodge is great and the food first class. My highest recomendation...Geo

Riverview is a great place in every regard. Cader Cox is a class guy, great food, dogs, lodging. Have been there several times. Having said that, Bill Bowles and his team do an extremely nice job as you've just experienced at Quail Country. Have been to several of the quail plantations and about the only one I wouldn't go back to is Rio Piedra.

Merry Christmas....and, Happy New Year!!!

Thanks for the reply gentlemen.

28bore,
What did you not like about Rio Piedra? This was one of the places I was considering. One of the guys I hunted with Quail Country hunted at Rio Piedra last season and he said he liked Quail Country more. I didn't ask why though.

Riverview seems like a really nice place. One of my biggest concerns is the quaility of the birds. I would like to see good, hard-flying covey flushes. You can't beat a in your face covey rise. How would you compare the birds at Riverview to the birds at other plantations? Compared to Quail Country's?

What is the cover type at Riverview? Pine woods? Open fields?

I am going to post a report about our hunt at Quail Country and Pine Hill if anyone is interested.

Adam

I've hunted Quail Country and several other plantations. My favorites are Samara and Southern Woods both near Sylvester,Ga. Samara is like being in a friends den and Southern Woods is a bigger lodge with all amenities. Both are hard to beat. Quality of birds being equal, Samara is traditional longleaf pine woodlands and Southern woods is more open piney woods with broomsedge fields.

Adam.....had a real problem with the attitude of the owners at Rio....like they were doing you a favor for being there. The birds at Riverview were plentiful and hard flying. They, as perhaps you know were one of the originals when it came to the early release program. Their fields are heavy pine, well maintained in that they have a good burn program and really know what they're doing. Thanks for your interesting reports. Great pictures.
