I just wanted to thank Raymond, Larry, Bob and others for their effort in the latest DGJ. Thanks for sharing some wonderful guns.
I found it interesting that Larry S. would step out and make a bold statement about 'outside engraving'. Although, I'm not fully convinced by that gun, my personal research suggests the same thoughts. There is no doubt in my mind that many of the makers sent out the best grades to whomever to get what the customer wanted. I feel that Loy, apprentices, and others continued to work their magic for many companies, despite the historical address listings.
Ithaca, Baker, SAC, Lefever, Smith, WB, Rem., and others, all shared the talent at times.
Dave... that PAC C grade is Glahn's. The whole family was 'busy as beavers' and had much talent. No proof.
Proof... for articles... no such thing. I can't comprehend why someone did not interview J.Loy.
For now, I'll leave it at that.
Looking forward to rereading/studying the article.
And look forward to more obscure American makers.... I know that Tom has a 'gem' to share.... if it gets published.
