Jim, it's very easy and yes you should know how to do it to clean, lube and tighten screws on the lockplates. Here's the best method:
1. With gun cocked, unscrew hand detachable thumb lever (small lever on left plate).
2. Screw it back in one turn.
3. Tap it lightly with a plastic mallet. This should push the right plate out far enough to remove it. Often they fit too tightly to pull out. It removes from the rear first (a small lip holds the front in).
4. Pass a 1/8"-1/4" wooden dowel through the action where the triggers are from the right side and tap the (rear of the) left plate out. Remove same as right one.
5. Reassamble in reverse order, but be sure to hold the cocking levers (they stick out at the front of the action where the forend attaches) up (which causes them to drop towards the rear) as you press the lockplates in. This will allow the cocking levers to seat properly in the lockplates. Also, be sure to check (with a properly fitting screwdriver) all the screws on the inside of the lockplates (bridle screws). They have a habit of loosening.
If you have questions, I am just over here in Jackson Hole. Call me and I will walk you through it. I just tried my method on my new Garbi 103A and it worked perfectly, except that I had to tap the left lockplate out with a nail with the tip flattened since there wasn't enough room for a dowel. 307-733-3626.

Great instructions Joe.

I came back to the thread because I had forgotten to mention the cocking levers
part on assembly, but you had it all covered.

I must say...with all of the foul weather I have been hunting in lately this is a skill almost on par with keeping up with my gun cleaning! Quite simply if a good cup of tea helps me to keep warmer and happier in the field...my hunting is always more succesful...LOL!
