I have a friend with a 20ga Browning BSS Sidelock unfired in a Browning hardcase. 26" IC/Mod. He's thinking of selling it and I want to give him a fair offer. What are these guns going for nowadays? I'm thinking this gun is worth approx $4,000. Am I close?
Thanks,
Chris

I'd think that would be a fair price for a 12 ga. The twenty gauge is going to be appreciably higher.

Saw 12 ga special game scene pattern asking 2950 two yrs. ago. 100% gun to my thinking at the time. Economy isn't booming; you could offer 3500 unless you feel obliged to fully leaven the loaf for a friend.

That seems a little high to me. I just bought a brand new in the box/never fired 12 gauge last summer for $1200.00 Used- around here they are going for about $8- 1000.00. I can see the 20 going for a little more, but not that much. Maybe $2000.00 Just my opinion. Good luck.

the cheaper one looks like winchester and has anson & deeley lock wereke, but the expensive one has h&h lock system commonly found in higher quality english and europen sxs game guns. 4k is fair price as last one i have seen in that condition was priced at $2900 and that was years ago (those with browning address quite rare). actually sles from b.c. miroku are quite rare in us period.

I have a friend with a 20ga Browning BSS Sidelock It's the EXPENSIVE one we're talking about . . . although the BSS Grade II (boxlock with coin finish and engraving) can be nearly as expensive. There were far fewer 20's made than 12's. Even the Blue Book, which is more often low rather than high in its estimates on sxs, puts a 100% BSS 20ga Sidelock at $5K. Depends on how eager your friend is to sell the gun. Given the current economy, I doubt he'd get $4K from a dealer--but I doubt you'd get a NIB 20ga Sidelock for less than $5K from a dealer if you were buying. I'd say that makes $4K a pretty fair offer from both your and your friend's standpoint.

I sold a near new, but fired, BSS sidelock 20 ga with no case on this board last Spring for $5800. A NIB one in a case is worth AT LEAST $6000. You'd be stealing it for $4000. Very few were made and they are a very high quality H&H pattern sidelock. Ken is right; Jimmy is talking about the BSS boxlock, an entirely different gun. Joe Bernfeld
