Gentleman I know this is off topic but you are the only ones I can think to turn to. I have a Ranger 20 GA over& under with 26" barrels model 103-6- which I believe was made by Marlin. I believe it is a copy of the marlin 90 probably for some hardware store chain. I have used this gun for upland game for the past 20 years +. This year it developed a problem the bottom barrel shot some times and some times it won't shoot when it doesn't shoot it barley makes a mark in the primer and when it dose fire it make a nice dent in the primer. I do not store my guns without falling the hammers on a set of snap caps. I have had this problem before with some old side lock doubles and after changing the main spring it has solved that problem. My problem is I can't remember how to get the main springs out I have tried every think I can think of short of cutting the action in half. Is there a trick I have forgotten to get this whole unit out. PeteGentleman I know this is off topic but you are the only ones I can think to turn to. Well, its Marlin made, Sears sold and pre WW2. I know somewhere that I have the simple round stock top lever spring it uses, but that spring is not your problem.
Pete - a diagram just about has to be in the old National Rifle Association series on take downs. Sometimes, I've gone to Numrich and found blow-ups of actions good enough to give me some clues of how to proceed.
Best of luck.

Peters------ the problem is probably, as you say, a weak firing pin spring, However you don't need to remove the sear box to make it right. The best way for us to resolve this is to speak to one another on the telephone. If you haven't already worked it out call me @ 1-318-987-2635 CST. I'm home and by the phone most evenings. Ron
