Antique Colt SAAs and Winchesters 1873&76s - never have I looked at such weathered and rough things as these with prices of 10k and up(and up real fast). After years of looking at fine shotguns with plenty of original high condition, these are hard for me to sort through. Any hints!

IMO Colt single action revolvers are the most overvalued of all guns. I see guys paying $200K for a gun that makes me yawn.

A guy in the area has a large collection of colts...One is a 99% condition, as issued SAA 7 1/2in army....The gun looks new. He picked it up at the Rock Island Arsenal back in the late 50s along with many others for next to nothing when they were doing a little house cleaning....Says hes been offered well over $200,000 for it...He always has a table at one of the Antique gun show/sales in the area with a lot of well worn pre ww1 guns and parts 4sale but a couple years ago instead of a 4sale table he just had a just 4 display table FULL of pre ww1 single action Colts...must have been 50/60 revolvers even a Walker and Dragoon...It was impressive...even 4 someone not really into them....

I'm getting the feeling that Colts are a whole different level of collecting. I've a Colt DA 41 and that might be the start and the end of it for me. The single actions are most likely the investment grade firearm, as all others are pennies to the dollar, when compared. Not even the Czar's Parker can match the price of a Walker.

may i suggest 5&1/2" stainless strum und ruger bisley-framed piece with .45colt and .45acp cylinders plus engraving of englishmen shooting revolver on the cylinder? very few were made, therefore, it will soon become a collectible.

Antique Colts and Winchesters are true collecting. Brit shotguns are mostly shooter-collectors and collector-shooters.

Collecting in itself is a very bizarre thing. Hardcore collectors "create" value and demand by analyzing the market of the items they collect, then choosing key items that are valuable and affordable they buy all of that model in order to artificially create demand (and a shortage) and then trade and sell those items off to build their collections. I have personally seen collectors do this with toy trains, rare books, ceramics, antique coffee grinders, etc... With guns, I would imagine, it is no different.
Personally, I really don't understand it. I just want a few old books to read, a few nice guns to shoot and a good glass of brandy every now and then.

Some humans seemed to be "wired" to collect and others not so "wired."

I don't attempt to understand collecting as a whole but rather wonder why would anyone collect Colts. I'd trade a truckload of Colts for one shabby Parker. I'm sure it's the same between Star Trek and Star wars action figurine collectors.
