Computer illiterate that I am, it took me this long to get back on the site. During the change I broke a mainspring in my Manhatten 10 guage. I havn't had much luck in finding a replacement yet. Any ideas would be welcome.

You may well have to have one made. Mike Orlen or Keith Kercher (? sp) are gunsmiths of good repute, send one of them the broken spring and either are very capable of making another one. As are many more gunsmiths in the US too.

Mike

-You can't have mine.

Have you accessed it yet and have a sense of what it looks like? I've never taken mine down.

Dixie Gun Works used to have an assortment of springs. Sometimes one could be fitted using their stock.

If the Manhattan spring turns out to be the style with the little intregal locking pin, or stay which is at ninety degrees to the spring bow, then its a rougher deal.

Remember once trying to replace a W.C. Scott 10 gauge top lever spring. Got as far as some illustrations from England. One appeared particulaly well suited, but when I ordered I was told it couldn't be exported because of liability concerns. One of our fine members from Pennsylvania saved my neck on this one as he had made two for his 10.

Remember, your Manhattan is very probably an early Sauer made sidelocker. There's a German Double club around somewhere - - I apolgize for not having the name correctly - - who may have someone to steer you right. Hopefully, you'll get good counsel here, bye and bye.

What's your Manhattan's serial # range?

Mike and Jay Cee

That's a very intereting site, Jay Cee. Thanks for the info. The firm's founder came out of early Sauer production.

Mike, please tell me what you come up with. Who knows, I may well need one sometime, too.

Outdoorlvr;I am guessing that you got the one from Track of the Wolf. Mine is a twin to it but shows more use. serial number range is 321xx. Jay Cee;Thanks for the links. They should be a good start. The spring is actually simple, flat on one leg and the other has a small bump on the end that drives the hammer.
