Hi all, just wanted to throw this out for fun. I sure like those older Gunsmiths, they are a hoot. We have one who has been smithing for close to 50 years. He knows his business and is good, very good.
It seems he does have a wonderful quirk. Everytime you bring in a gun for some work, he says everytime "Well.....I don't know, I don't have any parts for these old guns....I'll have to look at it in a couple of weeks." After a couple of weeks he'll call and say "It's done." Sure enough it is and the work is done right. The only thing he won't do is stock work, pitty.
He's the kind of smith who is not mean or cranky, just strokes his beard and won't say one way or the other if he can do the work.
These old timers are fun and he always makes me chuckle.
All the best!
Greg

I like the ones that know what the hell they're doing. I dont deal with the old crochety types either, there's too many good, talented, nice guys out there for me to waste my time with old crochety primadonnas. Its taken me a few years, but I have my allstar lineup of good guys I go to for work, I never have to question whether the job is going to be done right, I send them the gun and when it makes it back to me, I'm a happy dude.

When sending a gun off to today's 'smiths, better have your lawyer on notice. You'll be overcharged, they'll lose your gun or they will disappear in the night with your money. If one of my guns go bust, I sell it as is!

Btw, I had an old timer chase a barrel dent years ago - seemed he used a sledge hammer and said it was a good enough job. The poor thing was beat to a pulp - the ol'boy had a touch of a caveman.

I guess I'm fortunate. My firearms repair services have been very good. I've used these services of some who post here and been very satisfied with the result. Jim

Yes, I'm lucky to have a good Smitn here in England. His workshop is a step back in time at least 100 years and how the heck he finds anything in that clutter I will never know. Still, his work is good and his price is low. I tend to give him more than he asks for as do other that I know because we can't work out how he does it for the price. Lagopus.....

The only one I've had experience with so far is Cole Haugh, Indianapolis. Uggie firing pins and opened chokes. He makes and hardens his own pins.
He also does stock work..saw a good comment about his stock work on one fo the forums.
His father does high end custom work.
Pleasant people to do business with at fair prices.
Cole's phone 513 518 6722 His father's 812 654 3209
