Hi guys,
Even though someone told me things are getting hard and will get harder, and I should save my money because of the poor economy and all that other stuff like high gas prices etc. Well I didn't listen and went and bought me a Ruger # 1 in 32-40 anyway.
It has a 1 inch octagon barrel 31 inches long marked B. W. Darr on the top flat, on the bottom flat under the forend it's marked,
32-40 - 1:16 - 10-11-77 - 355 - 4.
It seems obvious to me that 32-40 is the Cart., 1:16 would be the twist,
10-11-77 may be the date the gun was built by ???, 355 and the 4 has me stumped. I don't know who the barrel maker was as the only name on it is
B. W. Darr.
Does anyone know what those last 4 numbers are or relate to, the 4 is under the 355 if that means anything.
Does anyone know who B. W. Darr was / is, was he the owner of the rifle or the gunsmith that built it ?.
I checked the Ruger serial number list on the Ruger # 1 group and the rifle was made in 1970, so I assume that the 10-11-77 date was when it was built into a 32-40.
I know it's not good to assume but I have nothing else to go by.
Any help would be appreciated, who knows, I just may shoot it if the economy gets better and I can afford powder, primers and bullets.
Thanks for any help.
