$500. I'd figure it to be a bargain, if I were to walk into a gun store and see it there.
Would I buy it. Maybe.
Realistically, could you get near one of those Meacham actions for $500?

Plenty of meat on them bones--needs a "shave"! Hoch action isn't elegant but is very functional if you can figure out how to make the wood meet the metal in a way that feels right for an offhand target or hunting gun. I guess bench resters don't have to care much about that.

My impression is that Hoch is only good for black powder pressure levels .... has no safety. Strictly for BP target shooting.

I have a Hoch in what is marked ".30 - 30", but it is Claude Rodrick's version - the .222 rimmed opened to .30.
