Can anyone tell me what a .30-405 is? I can't find anything on the web or in any of my reloading manuals. I was told that it is also known as a .310 magnum.
Thanks

There was a 405 Winchester necked to 30 caliber that was made by H.M. Pope. One of the members here has one and I think he is away from his computer for a few days.

There was a .30 Newton Express. I think that was actually made from a 40/70 Sharps Straight case, but it is very similar. Ostensibly fired a 150 grain bullet at "3300 fps".

I called Harry up in Jersey City. He said the .30/.405 was his idea for a long range hunting round. While I had him on the phone I asked when my barrel for the Ballard would be done. He said "maybe never if you don't stop hounding me!" --One can only dream.

FWIW-Probably not new info to most of you on this post-
In "WILCATS" by Simmons ('47)he has a small writeup on the .405-.308 Pope, stating that 2 target rifles and 1 hunting rifle were made up for it, and that Lucian Cary owned one of them.
Four pages later he shows the .30 Rimmed Magnum, a .405 necked to .30, made up by the legendary J. Bushnel(sp) Smith.
Good shooting.
