Gentlemen, would you please help me date a friend's AyA? Serial number is 602xxx. Barring that, when did the new numbering system begin?
Thanks in advance,
sv

Steve, they used the old date code system--letter followed by a number--from the mid-50's to the mid-90's. They started the new system in 1995, under which the last two digits of the new SN signify the year. So he should find one or the other of those date codes on his gun.

A second look at the barrel flats shows all the usual chamber markings, proof marks, barrel weights, etc. Under the left chamber is the serial number with no associated letter. Under the right chamber I find "M**2" Does this help?
Thanks, sv

No little rectangle with a letter or two inside it ... i.e. the "year of proof" as per the link provided ???

Steve, I have a Zabala that has a Z*1 that is 1980. That should put the AYA at 1993 if I read the tables right.

Steve, I have 2 different sources, both of which agree with Jim: M2 is 1993. See you at Flatwater!
