I just picked up a Fulton in 12 gauge that appears to be in real nice shape and not messed with. The issue is that the safety is very "sloppy" and if the gun is turned over will actually slip away from the gun. It will not come apart, but will separate some 1/4". The safety will operate if the gun is shouldered.
I have not touched it, just got it yesterday. Was hoping for some thoughts on getting it repaired and what is involved.
When fixed, am I able to shoot conventional shells through this?

If by "conventional" you mean "American factory loads", as in from Win/Rem/Fed . . . I'd guess you wouldn't have a problem with a Fulton, although if it's early enough (you can tell when it was made by serial number), it likely has factory short (2 5/8") chambers and was built to use shells that produce somewhat lower pressure--about 1,000 psi--than current factory loads. I would not worry about modern target loads, 1 1/8 oz or less at moderate velocities, but I'd likely stay away from loads with heavier shot charges or extremely high velocities.

I have not taken any Fultons apart, but it seems that the safety slide spring is broken and causing the safety to be sloppy.
I believe that all L.C. Smiths from the begining were chambered 2 3/4", and like Larry said I would shoot 8,000 psi and under shells for these guns.

Sounds like a bent/broken flat spring to me.
