A while back someone on this board put a leather pad on a gun by gluing it to the stock. They bored out the holes where the screws go into the stock and filed them with glue and the glue held to the screws. They put clamps on the pad to hold it to the gun while the adhesive dried. What kind of glue did they use? Has anyone else ever tried this method?

Don't try it Jimmy....the money you pay an expert to do it will be money well spent.

Jimmy, the method you're describing sounds a lot like the process described in the Sept-Oct 2005 Double Gun Classics e-journal article on an Unplugged Leather Pad. The screws are coated with release agent and inserted into slightly oversized holes that are drilled into the butt and filled with Acra-glass. If you don't have the article and it sounds like what you're looking for, send me an e-mail.

Thanks. I should have that edition. I have done a few with the covered plugs, but I was thinking of trying one without them showing. Thanks for the input, guys.

Not the Double gun journal, the Double Gun Classics electronic journal that is now defunct. It is in the Sept-Oct 2005 issue. Do you have those?

Jimmy,
One of our members from Canada posted that. He did a bang up job down to the edge bead where the pad met the stock.
If I can find it I will post it up.
He has posted other examples of his work, talented person.
Best, Mark

I remember seeing the glued on pad listed as a service on a gunsmith or dealer's site a while back. For the life of me, I can't remember where right now. Anyone else have a clue?
