Once I return from A-stan, I have to take the wife on 30th Anniversary trip. Got out of 25th anniv. because I was in Iraq. So, I cant put it off any longer. We went through the Alsace on our way back to Germany when I was on leave. I was impressed by the region and decided to go back there for a week in Oct. The fact that I saw a number of hochsitz in fields, I knew there was a good deal of hunting there.
So , have any of you any knowledge of gun shops or hunting opportunities in the Colmar area?
I understand that I may not be able to hunt due to some of the laws but its worth a shot. Maybe a one day wild boar hunt or something. or at least a visit to a gun shop or two. I wouldn’t bring a gun, so if the opportunity presented itself, I would have to rent/borrow one.

Or do you have any other suggestions for the hunter who visits that area?

Brian, I have some experience with the Alsace region. I don't know when you planned your trip but what I know for the moment is that this particular region have a surplus of wild boar and the hunting saison for boar is not closed. They have also many roe deer but helas it is only open in october. Brian, I can recomend you to taste the wine from a friend of my in Hunawihr (Schwach) and maybe he can also help you to hunt there. If you go F.Schwach's place you can say helo from me and I am sure that Daryl Hallquist have a good remember about that place to.
Colmar is capital of Alsace and a very intresting city to visit. I am sure that there are interesting gunshops.
If you want more info my E-Mail is visible in my profil or Daryl can help you.

Brian, glad to hear rotation home is approaching.

I've spent some time in Alsace, around Strasbourg, but unfortunately can't tell you much about either guns or hunting. However, do not fail to try the Alsatian version of sauerkraut (choucroute garnie) with a nice white wine. Very different from what you've probably experienced in the States.

Brian

I am not familiar with hunting opportunities in Alsace, but can give some general information on hunting for non-French residents.

Short-term (9 day) hunting licenses can be purchased by non-residents. They require purchasing insurance, paying fees to hunting organisations, showing passports, presenting photos, and most importantly for an advance planning point of view, presentation of your hunting license from your home country.

If you wanted, I could e-mail you a copy of more detailed information (in French) from a French source. I would not trust the accuracy or completness of my translation.

I agree with Marc on the Schwach wines. There sparkling wines and gewertzaminers are just the best. A beautiful , fun, country with good food and compelling history.

This is a link to the arms dealers in the Colmar area.
http://alsace.portaildescommerces.asso.f...atName=Armurier
If, in the top window, you use the button down icon at Département and change it from 68 to 67 – Bas Rhin and hit the “Rechercher” button another list for the adjoining area will be brought up.

Another list is at
http://www.ball-trap.info/armurier.asp?dep=68

The only Colmar one with a website is
http://www.armurerie-marc-muller.com/

Hope this helps, meantime stay safe and then enjoy your leave!
