Found a 1970s Ferlib sidelock and I'm curious about possible value. It's a 12 ga 7-pin sidelock with very nice wood and full coverage engraving of fine scroll in sort of an Italian version of Purdey rose and scroll. Very fine checkering (probably 28-30 LPI), 27 3/4" bbls, auto safety, articulated front trigger, IC/Mod, SS/SPL, checkered butt, good dimensions, excellent condition. Any ideas of possible value?
TIA! Joe (Sorry no pics; I'm attachment challenged!).

Joe:

Does it resemble this Ferlib example: http://www.cabelas.com/gun-inventory---ft-worth---european-sg---977827-ferlib-fw.shtml ?

I have a Ferlib, not a side lock,a 20 bore "Superposed" and have trouble finding value as well,keep an eye on the GI list and you can also write them, the owner did answer me and told me when it was built and where the engraver(Piardi) is now and what it cost then;
here is the link,he does not write perfect english but was very helpful;

Here is what appears to be a very nice one, IMO and he still has it listed for 5K. Don't know if it has any issues though.

I think ferlib guns are undervalued to a point. which is good if your buying.

The last one made on Japanese action and barrels and must be cheaper I believe.
As soon as I know Ferlib doesn't exist anymore, they were bankrupt 3 or 4 years ago.
But it was very respective company of 4 or 5 even brothers and all of them the best Italian makers.
Their guns are pretty much expensive like Famars, but Famars is not so good as Ferlib Bros. was.

Thanks for posting the link, Raimey; that's the gun. H&H, I saw that one, but due to the engraving, I thought the Cabela's gun might be worth more. I'm just not sure if $8000 is a great deal or a bit on the high side. Dave K, I just might email them and see what they say. I'm not really sure I'd want a 5 lb., 15 oz. 12 ga anyway! Thanks for the replies, gentlemen.

Here is email Joe,
I his name is Ivano Tanfoglio, nice guy and happy to help.
as far as I know he uses Creative Arts (thats where mine was done) for the engraving and he should be able to tell you who did it if its not marked.
I should sell mine to,its a bit to long LOP and I never used it,just takes up room in the safe.Let me know if you find a buyer Joe.

here is the email;

Geno

A japanese action? WOW... must admit I had never heard of that. I do know that libero Ferraglio has either passed away or retired and that Ivano Tanfoglio had taken over the operations of ferlib.
