Hi all what does the addition of log wood or copper sulphate ( into water tank ) together or seperate have on the finish of damascus barrels, I am happy with my finish but I am keen to learn how to change the colour? my grandfather could finish damascus with a blue tint to it I have no idea how he did this, what sort of amount would you put in?

From what I understand the Logwood dye turns the barrels darker black in color. I have some Logwood powder that I haven't tried yet. The last few barrels that I did for myself are Damascus and I didn't use it. This barrel is Stub Twist and I don't see how the Logwood would have helped to make it darker.
I believe you use 2-4 ozs. of Logwood powder to 2-3 gallons of water.

I know trappers use it on new traps and well as reconditioning old ones. They boil them and then dip them in the Logwood solution.

I have a pair of barrels ( scrap ) with a pattern like the ones you have posted that I am browning I will try some when I finish them perhaps a very small amount will slightly darken them, although it may darken the iron and the steel?
