How is the beading cut into the cheekpieces on high end BP rifles such as best quality Alexander Henry rifles.?

I've seen pictures of doing it with a file.

An American friend of mine does most of his stock work with a sanding disc on an angle grinder. He has forty years of experiece doing it, so I wouldn't recommend it for beginners.

He does do a beautiful stock though.

I'd go with Jim on this one. Couple different cut safe-edge files would whip that right out. That disc sander thing sounds a lot like the beginning of the cheekpiece removal.

Not sure what beading is, but for working in shadow lines, we have had good luck with auger bit files - two safe edges on them. And enough of a curve to them for working inside radius.

As always, hoping this find everyone well;

That is how I do them as well. Not very hard, just be patient and take your time.

I can't imagine why anybody who expects to get er did wouldn't sink the outline of the quirk and the cheekpiece face with carving chisels and rough out that cove with several gouges of different sweep. I can understand why you'd fair and finish with files or floats.

Because by the time you do the finish work, the last thing you want to risk is driving a chisel too deep. Much easier to control depth using a rasp and file. In reality you are not removing much material to create a shadow line. If you are working towards keeping a stock a certain dimension, I will opt for the slower safer method anytime.
