Just a little fun. I am sure anyone on this forum can identify the maker, but can anyone tell me where the rifle is located? Hint, it is not in a personal collection.

Yep, it is a 52. Here is another one.

I just can't believe nobody here has been to Dowagiac. That should just about give it away.

O.K. I'll bite, the owner of the Heddon Baitcasting Lure Co. or some similar corporate name built the shop for Adolph Niedner on the site of his factory's land. Ergo there must be a museum there now showing both, the fishing products side and the Niedner Rifle Co side. Tom Shelhamer's work was obvious. I was thinking more along the lines of a Model 52 he built for Ike after the WAR, my dad shot birds with the President in Albany Georgia over our bloodline of pointers in 1950 and the President discussed a Model 52 .22 coming out of Dowagiac for him (Ike), and Tom was doing the stockwork. I saw some of Ike's guns at
Gettsburg but don't recall any 52's. He supposedly liked regular guns and I was surprised at the ones I saw. They were mostly as I recall over the counter stuff. It's been a while and maybe there was a Shelhamer 52.

Gary, Thanks, I got the pictures of the Howe Rifle. I think you need to introduce yourself and give a little background info on your family.

I'll give AL #1 credit for his answer. The Southwestern Michigan College has a museum in Dowagiac. They have a small Shelhamer display with 5 rifles. Also on display are some pictures, a stock blank, and one of his checkering tools. A friend of mine lives near Dowagiac so he stopped by and snapped a few pictures. I don't have a good picture of it, but one of the rifles is a Rem model 121.

gbehrman, the second rifles shows the cheekpiece that you will see on a lot of later Shelhamer rifles. It does take some getting used to.

If Tom built a 52 for Ike after the war, that brings the number of Shelhamer 52 sporters to 4 that I am aware of. You know of any more Michael?
