The top lever on my Ugartechea Model 30 doesn't quite move back to center when closed. Should it always move back to exact center, or is 3/4's closed enough? (this is what one site said, that it should improve as the gun wears in). This particular gun has been used very little. Thanks for any info.

Top lever is usually a camming device to create linear motion in the gun's underbolt altho not the sole design. Depending upon the orientation of the cam on the top lever spindle and the tolerances involved, the lever could point anywhere and still lock up the gun. Bit like a boxend wrench on a hexnut which is an 1/8 of a turn from snug. You can pick up the facets of the nut with the wrench in several orientations but the nut still snugs up with the same total movement of the handle. Not a pefect analogy I suppose. The convention on a great many guns is that the bolt and spindle are fitted such that the lever stops to right of centerline of tang when the gun is closed and the bolt shot home. Given some wear to the cam and the lock end of the bolt, the lever tends to assume a position closer to six o'clock or centered over the tang. "Lever to right of center" is a common shibboleth among collectors and generally considered a rough and ready indicator of acceptable levels of use and wear. At any rate, I would think that your Uggie is locking up 100% and the position of your lever only relevant in that it is stopping where by established custom most people think it should. My M30 has also seen very little use and the lever stops to the right of center when the gun is closed. No worries.

Some of my guns have "improved" to the point of being better than perfect. :{

Thanks for the replies, that is what I suspected, but thought I should solicit some opinions. Cheers, BST

Saying thanks, even for ever so little, is a very pleasant custom. Not everyone here feels that common civility is called for after receiving assistance or advice. You are welcome, Sir.
