I was reading in an old DGJ last night came across an D.M. Lefever with a side cocker on the side of the gun really cool. Has anyone ever see one of these guns or a D.M. Lefever single barrel trap gun. Donnie

Sure. Algood had a sidecocker for sale at The Vintage Cup. It had the coolest little bit of engraving of a Setter really curled around pointing a bird following the curve at the very back of the left lockplate. Last D.M. Lefever single barrel trap I recall seeing was for sale by Ben Loving. You see more of them with the Three-Barrel/Royal Gun Co. markings then the original D.M. Lefever.

What does a DML single bring? I know where one is sleeping.

Whatever a buyer and seller can agree upon. They aren't anywhere near common enough in the marketplace to have an established price. A decade ago I paid $825 for mine, but it is a Royal Gun Co.

Is the Three Barrel/Royal single Barrel trap a Lefever or Hollenbeck design? The Three Barrel Co came out of the Hollenbeck Gun Co which went bankrupt in 1905. It was reorganized as the Three Barrel Gun Co and produced Hollenbeck 3 barrels under the direction Of Uncle Dan Lefever's son Frank. Did Frank then introduce his fathers single barrel trap gun? The DM Lefever single barrel traps guns were produced as their lowest grade and sold for $37 in 1904-5. There was a nice example of one at the Las Vegas show at the Lefever tables.

Yes. Apparently when Uncle Dan passed on and Frank came to manage the Three-Barrel Gun Co., as it emerged from the receivership of the Hollenbeck Gun Co., he brought all the single barrel parts with him. Three-Barrel and Royal Gun Co.s made and sold the Lefever-design singles along with their Hollenbeck designed doubles and three-barrels.
