He has a Remington 1894 F on gunbroker as well, that looks to be given the same treatment. What a shame!

Yes, he has the Remington F grade on GunsAmerica also and it is marked sale pending. I just wish I can tell that person just what he or she is buying. Buttstock is American walnut and not english walnut, it is not original to the gun and a very very poor fit.

I was thinking the same as far as fit is concerned. He also has a couple of Lefever DS grades one 12, one 16. I can't tell for sure, but it looks as though he's worked his "magic" on the 12.

A couple weeks ago, The DS 16 was bid up to to around $1,000.00. I tried to email the high bidder that if he looked on Gunsamerica, he'd see the shotgun for sale for $1600.00, but my email was blocked.

That's an Ithaca Trout, very rare in this condition. I'm surprised some of you Ithaca guys didn't spot that. No price chiselers now. Makes me drop at heal like the Prince of Whales.

It takes a quite a bit to make me put finger to a BBS keyboard anymore, but that is an atrocity of the first water. One could speculate that production of such an eyesore is sorta Ed's way of flingin' down the Torch Gauntlet. No argument from me, Ed. Y'r certainly a Master. Master of what, is a different question entirely.

Hansli, you have coined a whole new genre of SxS's. Thank you for the future amusement to be incurred by its use.

I recognize that Master gunsmith Ed Lander is not properly restoring these guns. Are we just going to gossip about him or will someone with true gunsmithing experience contact him and discuss his techniques and his use of the torch?

I certainly am not in a position with regards to experience. I would hope that someone with experience perhaps make recommendations to him to just freshen up the checking if he must and clean up the wood. Just my little $0.02.

Duke, stepping off my soapbox now

Randy,

In prior posts demostrating Mr Ed's specialities, and in subsequent discussions of them, it has been reported that contact and information exchange has been attempted.

While I wouldn't be the historian of all this Ed-ness, being pretty much an occasional reader, someone here could prob'ly fill in the empty spaces on the subject.

It is appreciated that 'contact' would be the right thing to do. Unfortunatly, such effort has reportedly been a one-way street to Mr Ed.and his vendor[s], with no published reply to which I can refer. Historically, such a situation has not been uncommon in the past, regarding a few other select 'situations'.

Sigh.

However, this 'special effort' of the Master Gunsmith, as noted via the link above, sets a new standard -- in fact, is iconic as an illustration of "restoration", as it should not be practiced.

Too bad, and I doubt very much that anything written here will ever have an effect on the perp and his salesman. Hence, at best I have P'sd and M'nd about it, and that is that, for me. Once you see a really, really bad car wreck, the temptation to look closely at another one is pretty much reduced for the balance of y'r life.
