My shotgun is currently mod/full and I want a least a IC/mod! The question is; would it be better to have both barrels opened up or just have the full opened to IC?
In the case of full to IC, it would cause the rear trigger to be the most open/first pulled... is this a problem when shooting a sxs?

It is traditional and also practical for the front trigger to be for the open barrel. Upon firing the first shot the trigger finger easily slides backwards to the rear. Personally I'd go ahead and open both barrels making the right barrel the IC.

wb,
you might try openning the mod (right) barrel to IC and using it as IC/Full for a while. I've found a very tight second shot is very useful in most situations.

If your conditions favor a more open second shot, go ahead and open both to your desire.

I agree with Both Joe and Chuck. Slightly more with Chuck if you want to save $. IC/full is also more versatile than IC/Mod, especially in smaller gauges, IMO.
I'd like to throw in a small point here, we always refer to the triggers as front and rear and they are. However, they are also right and left. Some folks, new to SxS shooting, are completely bewildered as to which trigger fires which barrel. A quick look at the slots in the trigger plate would(or should) make the answer clear. As I said, I just threw that in. Feel free to throw it out.

wb,

If you need this work done, I would recommend Mike Orlen. I think his contact info is listed somewhere on the site. He does nice work. As for the choking, you could compromise and go IC/IM. Choices, choices...

Jim Legg - if someone is directionally challenged how would you describe which trigger to pull? :-) Oye!

Send it to Mike Orlen. THe work will be done fast, right the first time and his rates are very reasonable. I would open both up to what you want. Good work does not devalue a gun and it will make it much more versitile for your needs.

I have never had a problem switching front to rear or rear to front on the triggers. Which ever I start with I automatically go to the other.

I had a similar problem with a 20 ga. Spanish gun choked full and fuller, so I had it opened to skeet and IC for skeet shooting. In retrospect I should have had a set of screw in chokes put in because the pattern is rather thin for hunting beyond 20 yards.

Good luck.

I'm with RPr - it doesn't matter which barrel is tighter . I have two sxs's that have the right barrel tighter . Opening just the one would be cheaper . Paul

We're assuming wb patterned with spreaders before considering opening chokes, eh? I've gone that way for same reasons with satisfactory results.
