If the quail event were by Luzerne County or Coleman Shoot rules, I might see the point of your post. However, two shots with mounted gun doesn't seem appropriate for a quail shot out of a Barnaby.

I may be wrong on this but as I understand it the AG's opinion is just that - an opinion. It may be cause to pursue prosecution, but it is not the law. Precedent to substantiate it would have to be obtained thru the adjudication process with the AG providing justification for whatever case is at hand. And the circumstances can certainly be argued. Until that is done, shooting pigeons is still legal. And you can put anything you want in a Barnaby. No, the AG won't fit.
JMO of course I'm not an attorney

JMO of course I'm not an attorney WtS I agree. However, I don't know whether or not that a case has ever been prosecuted and a conviction made. If it has, the precedence would be established. If no case has been tried, the opinion serves as a basis for law enforcement to determine action for citations or arrest. I was just assuming the worst case that it had been established thru a previous case that it was illegal. Certainly, the average hunter I've met believes P-shoots are illegal in CA. But, then the average Californian voted for Obama. Next time you're in a McDonalds, ask for the Obama value pak. That's where you pick what you want and the guy behind you pays for it. Well the "cash for clunkers" program did have a positive aspect...it got 95% of the vehicles with "Obama for President" bumper stickers off the road.

The average hunter/gun guy believes pigeon shoots are illegal everywhere. Most of them think that they know what they are doing and are the world's greatest shots and lovers too.
It is unfortunate that so many of the people on our side have to be such a bad advertisement in so many ways. And so ignorant. And so paranoid.
JMO of course

I recently participated in a tower shoot at Markover Preserve in CT with pheasants and pigeons hand released from a tower that was surrounded by 12 pegs with two guns in each peg. I understand that the Addieville club in RI holds similar events. Not sure I will do it again (still recovering from shooting 5 boxes of 13/8oz 1440 fps 12 ga shells at birds directly overhead ), but it was an interesting experience. Obviously, what RI and CT permit does not control what is or is not legal in CA, but does indicate that other states do not view it to be cruelty to animals, to the extent that might undermine a "reasoned" opinion by the CA AG about what the law ought to be.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

WtS I've been telling my wife that for decades. I like making her laugh, but the way she laughs when I say this is troubling.

Just as an another thought to this. Australia was the live bird shootiing mecca for many years until the last State banned it in 1956. During the Depression years, there was much ill feeling about 'good meat' in pigeons being 'wasted' in pigeon comps that were then still very popoular and socially acceptable events, often being held on major farm holdings by the wealthy (we called them the land'ed gentry)..anyway, to the point...the poverty here during the Depression was extreme, and the thought of wasting good pigeon meat meant that sparrows and starlings were introduced as alternative targets. You can imagine how hard there were to hit, but there was little left after a hit by a full choke of 7's, even with 21 yards 'start'. After the Depression they kept sparrow events as novelty events. The pugeon rsumed his rightful place as the target. These days, the by now feral blue rock pigeons have interbred with feral carrier pigeons and (quite incongruosly) moved themselves back into the major towns and cities, where today they are a darn pest. Personally I fail to see any difference breeding any caged bird for slaughter (eg: chickens)and breeding/using pigeons for gun competition,

The problem with quail, it seems to me, is that they're a lot easier to kill than pigeons. One of the factors in pigeon shooting is that you not only have to hit the bird, but you have to drop it inside the ring. Quail will occasionally fly on crippled, but not nearly as often as pigeons. Chukar are probably pretty similar in terms of being more difficult to knock down.
