In the 60s I lived in Rapid City. I remember Pete Grizel or Grisel produced a tang safety. It was welded on. I did not get one for my Mexican Mauser as I was using a Canjar with it's own safety. Not sure if they are the same, though.

Looks like a job number to me. Was he a stock maker as well and could he have done the stock?
The stock reminds me of work by Dale Goens but I have nothing to back that up.

Hi Micael, I have sent pics of the Anderson Safety, I finally got my action out of the stock and it does not look like the one you posted about. Interesting though.

If you would like to you can, it would be more for the interest of the other readers. As far as I am concerned you can post the pics and the info I supplied, I'm not worried about posting serial numbers of rifles like some people are. Thank you for asking. I could probably send a pic from the late 40's American Rifleman ad for Anderson gun shop work if you are interested. Brad

Michael: As to your questions re: Pete Grisel, he was the primary designer of the Dakota 76 action with Don Allen doing the stockwork. He only stayed with Dakota about a year and then left, I'm not sure why. I don't know if it is his safety but someone could call him so that he could verify it or not. Warmest Regards Jerry
