Can anyone give me any info about this maker and quality? I'm considering an old hammergun from them and wanted to learn a bit more. Thanks.

Charles and Herbert Weston traded at numerous addresses in Sussex, England starting around 1867. F.A.Anderson of East Grinstead, Sussex bought the name but seem to have gone out of business around 2000.

Impossible to say anything about the quality of the guns that they sold as they would have sourced them from the Birmingham trade and not actually made any. They would supply what the customer wanted so you could find anything from the real cheap knockabout gun to something of very good quality. You will have to go by the gun in question. If the gun has the full address on the top rib I may be able to narrow down the date for you. Sorry I can't be of much more help at this stage. Lagopus.....

The late Geoffrey Boothroyd reviewed the business of the Weston family of gun makers in an article published in the British magazine ,"Shooting Times" Jan 14-20 1988.The founder of the business is given as; William Weston,6 Royal Colonnade,Brighton.
Brighton appears to be the primary location of the business. There is confusion as to the business address as it varies from label to label. The most prevalent address is given as: Charles and Herbert Weston 7, New Road,Brighton,[circa 1921]. According to Boothroyd the business closed in 1971.
Boothroyd pictures a Weston back action sidelock marked, patent #6692[Could be the gun number?].The gun features top lever cocking, no record of a patent filing has been found.
As stated by Lapogus, Weston likely purchased guns from Birmingham, My sole example was a rook rifle engraved,"Made by W.W.Greener for C.& H. Weston."
